Protecting Ocean with love

What does marine debris achieve when
effectively managed and reduced?

Environmental Impact

The UAE’s strategic location at the convergence of major ocean currents makes it a hotspot for marine debris, posing severe threats to marine life and ecosystems through plastic waste and abandoned fishing gear.

Ecological Threats

Marine debris leads to significant harm among marine species such as birds, sharks, turtles, dolphins, and whales, exposing them to risks of injury, entanglement, and ingestion, which can be fatal.

Global Challenge

With 80% of marine debris originating from land-based sources and significant volumes of plastic entering oceans annually, urgent action is essential to mitigate the harmful effects of marine debris on ocean health and biodiversity.

PROBLEM

Why do our oceans need our urgent help against marine debris?

The UAE’s unique position at the convergence of major ocean currents makes it a hotspot for marine debris. Plastic waste and abandoned fishing gear threaten marine life, with 80% originating from land-based sources and 20% from ocean vessels, amounting to 636,000 tons annually. Globally, 8.8 million metric tons of plastic waste enter oceans each year, with 33% as microplastics from single-use packaging. Each UAE resident uses an average of 450 plastic bottles annually, highlighting the urgent need for action to protect marine ecosystems.

SOLUTION

What can we do to
make a difference?

Join our community-driven efforts today to clean UAE coastlines through organized beach cleanups and educational workshops. Your support will fund these initiatives, educate on waste management, and promote sustainable practices to safeguard our marine environments for future generations. Together, let’s make a difference for our oceans!

Why is it important?

Our marine debris campaign is essential for maintaining the health and vitality of marine ecosystems. By clearing debris from the ocean, we help create cleaner, more vibrant environments where marine life can thrive. Removing waste from coastal areas also supports the natural beauty of our ocean, enhancing the quality of habitats for countless species. This work promotes a deeper connection between people and the ocean, fostering stewardship and encouraging sustainable practices. Through these efforts, we contribute to the overall health of marine ecosystems and support the long-term preservation of ocean biodiversity.

Methods

Beach Cleanups

Organize regular community events to remove debris from beaches, keeping coastlines clean and safe.

Ocean Cleanup with Divers

Deploy divers and specialized equipment to retrieve debris from underwater environments, protecting marine life.

Educational Programs

Conduct workshops and campaigns to raise awareness about marine debris, promoting responsible behavior and prevention.
